Jane was born in Newmarket, and lives there with her husband John. She was educated at the Perse School for Girls, Cambridge, the University of Bristol (BSc), and Homerton College, Cambridge.
Her interests include horse racing, fishing, fine arts and gardening. She has chaired the Newmarket Arts Society, the British American Community Relations Committee RAF Mildenhall, the Campaign Committee for the National Horseracing Museum and Sporting Art, and the Shrievalty Trust.
She is a member of the Ely Cathedral Trust.
Jane has been County Chairman for Riding for the Disabled (West Suffolk), a Magistrate and was recently appointed a Vice President of the Royal British Legion, Women’s Section.
Jane was the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire for 2002/3 and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire in 2003, serving as Vice Lord-Lieutenant between 2006-2017.
