John (Johnny) Kaye was commissioned from The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, into The Royal Hussars (PWO) in 1972. After various command and staff appointments in the United Kingdom and Germany (British Army on the Rhine), he commanded The Royal Hussars from 1990-1992. He left the Army in 1992, and after working for the Countryside Alliance for 3 years, took on the family farm.
Johnny joined Her Majesty’s Bodyguard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms in 2003, and retired in 2021 after holding the appointment of the Lieutenant for his last 21 months. He is President of the Cambridgeshire Branch of SSAFA, having previously been the Chairman, and also the SSAFA Regional Representitive for East Anglia. He is the Cambridgeshire DL responsible for No 2 Company of the Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force.
Johnny served as a magistrate for 13 years and was Chairman of the Ely Bench. He was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire in 1997 and was was appointed a Lieutenant of The Royal Victorian Order in 2022.
