Sophie Costello is the founder and CEO of Costello Medical, a consultancy headquartered in Cambridge, with international offices in Boston, Singapore and Shanghai. The company specialises in the analysis, interpretation and communication of data to improve access to medicines. Sophie founded Costello Medical in 2008 with her husband Richard Short and the company now employs over 450 people. Their aim is to ensure that Costello Medical is a force for good; the company was certified as a B Corp in 2022 and commits over 2000 days a year to projects free-of-charge on a pro bono basis to charities and non-profit organisations. Sophie’s role now involves overseeing the leadership team and ensuring the company stays true to its values as it continues to grow. She leads the Equality and Inclusion Task Force and is actively involved in the company’s outreach programme. Sophie is also the Chair of Trustees of Beacon: For Rare Diseases a charity based in Cambridge that supports and empowers patient groups to improve the lives of rare disease patients. She works with them to help manage their growth and to mentor the team.
Sophie holds a First Class Masters in Chemistry from the University of Oxford and a Masters in BioScience Enterprise from the University of Cambridge. She lives in Cambridge with her husband Richard and their four children.
